3FER FRIDAY - MAGNETIC FIELDS

I Looked All Over Town
Magnetic Fields is hit or miss for me, because sometimes it just borders on the verge of too bizarre to enjoy, but this was playing at the restaurant August last night, and the second I got home, I reacquainted myself with them. There are some gems in their huge catalog of songs...There was no decent video of this song, so I just posted a link to it below- you can also download it too (shhh).

Metronomy - A Thing For Me

Of Montreal - Requiem for O.M.M. 2

The Byrds - So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star

Reading Patti Smith's book Just Kids about her life with Robert Mapplethorpe...A hopeful, starving artist at this point, she had just seen the Doors perform when she realized there was something in Jim Morrison's performance that she herself could do. Her friend introduced her to this song, telling her it would be important to her...

"Everybody Loves The Sunshine"

This is the theme song for today... the rain is over (for now) and the sun is trying to pop through.
I'm not sure who sings this version. My favorite version is sung by Seu Jorge but I couldn't find it on YouTube. If you can find his version please post it!! That'd be sweet!

Madness - House of Fun

Watch The Young Ones. It's great. Really glad my friend showed it to me.

Tom Petty - American Girl

I want to dress like Tom Petty in this video...

It's Wednesday and the only thing I can really say about this song is that it reminds me of my crazy sister that I no longer speak to. On her visits home to Buffalo, she would play this one amazing mix on repeat, this song included. I've posted a few of the other songs here before...My sister- she had bad habits, but good taste in music.

The Black Keys - Tighten Up

Cat Power - Love and Communication

First time I saw Cat Power was in the mid-90s – she performed inside an old Quaker stonehouse at my college and played the entire set with all her hair in her face. Amazing. No ticketmaster, free beer, and an unbelievable performance. It’s a good reason to go to college.

Magic Kids - Hey Boy

I read an interview with Christopher Chu, from Morning Benders, and when asked about any upcoming bands to watch, he said Magic Kids. I immediately Googled them, OBVI.
They are adorable- a bunch of geeky teenagers from Tennessee making amazing music.
Kind of reminds me of the show, Glee, but so much cooler!

Phantogram - When I'm Small

Mayer Hawthorne - Make Her Mine

Vampire Weekend - Ottoman

Not from any album, but from the credits of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Also, Stars and Strange Boys are both awesome!

Stars - Heart

I was introduced to Stars (this album in particular) during the Vermont years by a couple friends, so it always makes me think of the Green Mountain State even though the band is based an hour north in Montreal. This is one of my favorite songs from this album. I like the trumpet solo (I think it’s a trumpet, awesome). I also like that the lead singer's name is Torquil who performs with Broken Social Scene. I didn't make that connection before today though.

The Strange Boys - A Walk On The Bleach

Another mobile post. No internet is no excuse!!!

Thanks to STRONGKENTWYTHE for introducing me to The Strange Boys.
I'm feeling them today.

Flight of the Conchords - Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros

The National - Terrible Love

Local Natives - Wide Eyes

Caribou - Leave House

Susan Cadogan - Hurt So Good

Hello Everyone - I'm Ryan and this is my first post here on your blog. A mutual friend of Stephanie's and mine turned me on to the bestest a few months ago and I've been following pretty much everyday since then. I'm super excited to now be contributing - I'll try not to post any let-downs or repeats.

In keeping with the loose rules of the blog, and since it's Wednesday, a few words on my post...I heard this song in a record store in Tokyo a few summers ago and instantly fell for it. A very awkward and ultimately useless attempt to find out who/what it was from the guy at the register went down (not a lot of English from him, and no Japanese from me) - I finally got him to show me the actual record when the song was over and as luck would have it the whole label was in Japanese. Pretty much defeated, I scribbled down what bits of lyrics I could remember and tucked the piece of paper into my wallet. Fast forward to a semi-annual-wallet-clean-out/purge a few months later and I find the slip of paper. A quick google lyric search and trip to Earwax and the record was mine. It's been a good weather go to on my Ipod ever since (getting heavy rotation today.) Hope you guys like it too...

Patrick Cleandenim - In My Baby's Eyes

Oops! There isn't a download-able file of this demo anywhere, so I had to do some sleuthing and shady lifting...But I have been obsessed with this song since I first heard it a few months ago on his MySpace page and was dying to post it. If I get in trouble, it's all in the name of loving this song.

!BONUS POST! Alessi Brothers - Oh Lori

Because it's a slow day on BESTEST, I'm taking the liberty of making another post.
This song goes out to Treena, who blogged about us recently, because she's the one who sent it to me, and I never would have known it's genius had it not been for her. Been listening to it on repeat all day, a perfect summertime love song for the heatwave we are kind of having.

2Fer Born Ruffians

I posted another one of their great songs back in September.
