We all know the story of how a young man was named Sue by his estranged father and subsequently got the shit kicked out of him for it. Well, what you might not know is that Johhny Cash didn't write it. It was written by a cartoonist/poet/singer/songwriter named Shel Silverstein who was inspired by his friend, Jean Shepherd, who had a girly name.
Some say that Cash was pestered into performing this song at the prison in San Quentin by his wife. The video below is that original recording. He had never performed it before and didn't even know the words yet.
